Author Guidelines

Authors are encouraged to read the "About" page before making a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Information for authors, reviewers, and editors

Aims & Scope

The scope of ITJ is broad, focused on topics in all areas of knowledge that engage with Islam as a faith, idea, event, and institution since the seventh century to the present. We invite scholars whose works deal with these subjects from any discipline including Astronomy, STEM sciences, Social Sciences, Economics, Humanities, Arts, Literatures, Philosophy, Religious studies, Business, Law and Jurisprudence, and Health Sciences.

It is ITJ editorial policy that articles be based on original research that is informed by recent discoveries and methodological innovations. ITJ evaluates manuscripts that have not been published elsewhere in any language and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

The Editorial Office is maintained through the support of the non-profit research organization, IQ Systems Research. The Editorial Board operates independently.

Guidelines, Procedures, and Processes

Documents containing guidelines, procedures, and processes for submitting, reviewing, and publishing articles are listed below.

An editor may reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Formatting matters:

Although pre-review submissions do not need to be formatted to meet the Journal’s standard, when accepted, the final article must be formatted as follows:

Font: century schoolbook

Font size: 12 dpi (body; footnotes/endnote 10 dpi

Margins: 1 inch from all four sides

Article must contain these parts:

  • Title
  • By line (authors)
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Body
  • Conclusion
  • And other notes as needed

Authors may want to download the provided Template and use it to format their final proof (a pdf copy of the template is provided for your reference). To preserve any special formatting and characters, please produce a high-resolution PDF file and submit that is your final proof. To download the MS Word document, please use the menu, File, Download (MS Word); if opened using other software, it may not preserve the needed formatting.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Articles

Section default policy

Reviews of works of scholarship

Essays reviewing works of scholarship (articles, monographs, research notes, etc.) are not peer-reviewed. The decision to publish or decline is made by the editorial board of the Journal.

Translations of works of scholarship

Translations of a works of scholarship that was peer-reviewed will be considered peer-reviewed. Works that were not peer-reviewed will not be indexed as peer-reviewed works

Reports, Datasets, and Primary Sources

Content of this section can be in the form of datasets, reports, and data analysis, regardless of the kind of data, be it textual, numerical, digital, etc. Works in this section may not be peer-reviewed if it does not have a major theoretical contribution. It is reviewed, however, by the editorial board for the level of significance and relevance.

Pre-2023 Repository (articles published before 2023)

To provide a stable URL for each article published in the past 20 years, this section lists articles that were published in the previous editions of this journal.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

Islam Today journal ("ITJ") is committed to protecting the users’ information and respecting applicable data protection laws around the world, including where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the California Consumer Privacy Act, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, and the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act. This privacy policy explains how ITJ does this, and how it applies to visitors’ use of ITJ websites.

How we use your personal information

ITJ collects users’ information that is needed to allow it to perform its work. Generally, the information Islam Today collects is used to communicate with editors, author, reviewers, and reads (if the latter choose to register, though readers do not have to register to access the journal’s content.

In some cases where we ask for your personal information, we do so in order to fulfil your request (e.g. needing your address to send you your order). If you do not provide that personal information, we will not be able to process your request or order.

Giving and withdrawing your consent and updating your personal information

Where your consent is required for us to process your personal information, we will ask for your consent at the point at which you provide your data. You have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. You can also update your personal information at any time. You may use the online form to request deletion of your personal information, or you can do so yourself from the registered users’ dashboard.

ITJ does not sell your personal information to third parties.

Storing, transferring, and retaining your personal information

ITJ main content is hosted on server in the United States. However, we use tools provided by 3rd parties, including the online contact us form provided by Google. We use these 3rd party services with the initial understanding that these providers will not collect your data directly, and if they do, they must alert you. However, 3rd party providers often change their policy, and we have no control over their processes.

 

We will only keep records of your personal information for as long as is reasonably necessary for the purposes for which we have collected it, and in order to comply with any statutory or regulatory obligations in relation to retention of records. We respect requests to stop processing your personal data for marketing purposes. This includes keeping a record of your request indefinitely so that we can respect your request in the future.
